What inspires you to dress the way you do?

When I was little my mom picked out my clothes for me. And, while I was at my dad’s house my dad dressed me. When we are little we don’t get to develop a sense of style.
As we grow up we figure out what we like and we go along with the trends of our generation.

In middle school we start shopping at more expensive stores and we learn how to shop on our own. When I was in middle school Juicy jackets and Vans were “in”. With all new styles came new clothes that everyone started wearing. Shopping at the best stores with the cutest clothes is what we are all looking for. After we get out of middle school we know what kinds of clothes we like and what stores we like to shop at. We all have developed our own sense of style up until High School.

I think that everyones styles are influenced by what music they like and what kind of tv shows we watch and what our parents or friends like. I believe that in middle school everyone tries to fit in but in highschool everyone tries to be unique and independent. Our styles reflect our changing personalities. Its not like we are bipolar but we change the way that we view things as we get older.

Once we all find who we are so that we don’t just fit in but we stand out in a way. We all have different views on whether or not clothes match or if they go together and something I might be wearing might look hideous to some people but might look cute to me. And what they might be wearing I might think is ugly. When picking something out to wear you must take in mind where you are going, what the weather is going to be like and what mood you are in.

Some days when its raining and you are not in a very good mood you might wear a sweatshirt or sweats. But if it is sunny outside or you are in a really good mood you might wear a cute outfit. Your mood can affect your outfit decision a lot. So can the places you are going to go that day. A formal dress is very different compared to a day dress and you can not wear a formal dress to a beach or wear it just on a normal day of shopping or to school. You have to wear a formal dress to an elegant party of some sort.

When I pick out an outfit for the beach I grab some shorts and a tank top but if I wore that outfit to school I would end up getting a dress cut. When I go to school I usually pick out jeans or a skirt because I can’t get a dress cuts when I wear those. When I am at school I can’t wear tank tops either so I pick out a nicer shirt to pair with a sweater. When I have to pick out an outfit to go to church in I usually pick out something more conservative.

Personality is reflected through one’s personal style. When I was in middle school in sixth grade I always loved colors. If my outfit didn’t have color in it then I didn’t like it. That probably just reflects that I liked things to be loud. Colors usually mean that you have a bold personality. That doesn’t mean that if you aren’t wearing color you don’t have a bold personality though.

While growing up I think that a lot of different people go through different stages. These stages could include being goth or wearing a tutu to school every day or even being quiet or loud. These stages could include a sporty or a “tom boy” phase. That means that you could be wearing soccer or basketball shorts or a sports jersey all the time. Or these stages could include a really girly stage where you only wear dresses or always have to wear pink. I babysat for two little girls and one of them was really sporty and the other one was very girly. But through the next three months when I watched them the sporty girl had turned into a very girly one. She never wore her soccer clothes when she wasn’t playing the sport again.

When I go shopping with my friends we all know what we like and what we don’t. We all have similar styles so it is easy for all of us to go shopping together. Though, sometimes my friend will pick out something that I think is ugly and I would never wear but they like it. And sometimes I do the same thing, I will find something that I love but they won’t like it at all because they would never wear it. But when I see them when I have it on they like it because of how I wore it. It is funny the way things work out sometimes.

Growing up with a twin sister was nice because we both developed similar styles. When we were younger we were dressed the same and we grew up liking the same things. Now we wear each others clothes all the time. Sometimes I forget that something is hers and isn’t mine. It is useful for when we buy each other presents because we like the same things because we have the same taste. If I like something then she will like it. I also think that she can influence my own style.

I use to absolutely have Toms( a brand of shoes) I thought that they were just so ugly but my sister really liked them. One day she pointed out a pair of sparkly Toms that she liked and later bought them. After seeing her wear them I liked them so much that I bought a pair of them for myself in a different color. If she hadn’t gotten her Toms then i would never have gotten mine. I am happy I got them because I wear them all the time.

Overall I believe that many things influence your personal style as you grow up. Whether it is the shows that you watch or the people you are constantly around we are all inspired by different things and different people. That is why I believe that everyone has different styles that develop up until high school.
