On the freezing cold and clear California night of November 7, the San Ramon Valley Wolves defeated the Livermore Cowboys 35-20 and were rewarded with another win for an overall record of 7-2.
Five minutes into the first quarter, the Wolves put some points on the board when Matt Turner (11) received an 18-yard pass from Zach Kline (12) which put the Wolves in the lead 7-0. No less than 10 seconds later, a whopping 51-yard pass to wide receiver Patrick Worstell (12) gave the Wolves a 14 point lead that would be unchallenged until the second quarter.
With 11:30 left to go in the half, Livermore scored a touchdown followed by a failed extra point attempt and an 8 point difference in the game. San Ramon responded three minutes later with a touchdown on a 5-yard run by Jordan Weiss (12) and a successful extra point by Matt Anderson (11). The score would remain unchanged going into halftime when the Marching Wolves and color guard squad performed to the chilly remaining football fans who toughed out the cold to support their school.
Worstell scored three minutes into the third quarter on an 8-yard pass from Kline, making it a four touchdown game that the Wolves were determined to come out of victorious.
The fourth quarter began with another touchdown by Worstell on a 53-yard pass from Kline. Livermore scored twice more in the fourth quarter but fell short of a win as San Ramon gained their seventh overall victory.
Kline completed 13 of 15 attempted passes for 280 yards. Worstell lead the team in receiving, with 112 yards in only 3 receptions for 3 touchdowns, followed by Michael Tagliaferri (12) with 54 yards in 2 completions.
Weiss led the team in rushing with 123 yards in 18 attempts, averaging about 7 yards per carry, followed by Marcus de la Peña (10) with 54 yards in 6 attempts.
Defensively, Colin Nelson (12) had the most tackles with 10, eight of which were solo, and two assists. Kyle Haggard (12) had seven tackles, six of which were solo, and one assist. Haggard also sacked Livermore quarterback Zack McPherson twice for a loss of eight total yards.
On Friday, Nov. 18, support the Wolves on their home field as they take on Castro Valley in the first round of NCS playoffs.
