DANVILLE, CA- The Granada Matadors hosted the San Ramon Valley Wolves Tuesday night as the Wolves came in riding a three game winning streak. Just last week, San Ramon, led by Senior star Jerry Karczewski upset Monte Vista, the 20th team in the nation, in overtime by a score of 59-56. Even coming into the game coming off such a great week, the Wolves had to focus on Granada, who had upset San Ramon Earlier this season by a score of 76-61. It was a tight game early as the Wolves struggled getting it going, yet they would overcome the difficulties to win, 62-55.

San Ramon Valley came out crashing the boards in the first quarter yet they only led at the end of the first quarter, 9-8. Jerry Karczewski struggled in the first half, going 0-6 from distance in the half as the Wolves would trail, 24-21 at the half.

“The 2nd half was better, we made some great plays and our bigs worked their butts off the whole game to win the game on the boards,” said San Ramon junior guard Keith Smith.

The second half was a way different story as it was all going right for San Ramon. Karczewski, combined with the help from his teammates, stepped up to make many three pointers on the road to victory. The Westmont commit, Karczewski, finished the first half with only a single point, but finished the game with 19 points, 18 of which came in the second half. San Ramon Senior David Gunn added 15 points, while sophomore Austin Henderson scored 10.

“We know Jerry can get hot in a second, so trusting him is huge for us,” said Keith Smith.

Granada guard Kameron Johnson was huge in this game for the Matadors as he scored 26 points. Even though Johnson shined in the game, Granada was just 3-22 on three pointers as they were locked up all night.

“We got a lot of good looks, but we just didn’t hit them. Overall we thought this was one of our better played games, the shots just were not falling tonight,” said Granada guard Kameron Johnson.

The loss drops the Granada Matadors to a record of 12-9 on the season as they are now 4-5 in league. Granada has five more league games left on their regular season schedule as they host Foothill on Friday. The win continues an unbelievable season for San Ramon as they are now 18-3 and 7-2 in league play. If the Wolves want to capture the North Coast Section title this year, they must get past the extremely talented Monte Vista Mustangs and De La Salle Spartans. With only five games left on the season as well for the Wolves, only time will tell who the NCS Champion will be.
