With the arrival of spring, SRV’s track and field team is into the season of training and competition. All athletes have been working for weeks in preparation for upcoming meets ahead.
Practices usually begin at three forty five and are catered to everyone’s events. For example, sprinters focus on technique through drills and speed work, while throwers work on practicing jumping form or throwing technique, and distance runners do interval sessions.
Many athletes also spend time outside of practice further improving their capabilities with recovery and weight training being done. Ryan Rehage, for example, a junior distance runner, says he makes sure to sleep for at least 8 hours a night, eat plenty and stretch frequently. He looks forward to the EBAL league meet aswell.
Although the team has already competed in several early-season meets such as Dan Gabor and Don of the Season, the biggest competitions are yet to come. Many are hoping to set personal records, while others are hoping to qualify for playoffs.
As a result, the team continues to train hard since the work they’re putting in now could make all the difference in later high stakes competitions.
